Why is Petit Four called that name?

In French, four means “oven.” When the fire was fading out and there was still loads of hotness reserved in the oven fences, this was called petit four (“small oven”). This lower temperature was precise for baking different pastries and small cookies and starters, that is the reason it is called Petit Four.
